Parents Say No to Ohio Proficiency Test
Who are the BULLIES?
The State of Ohio legislators are bullying us into believing that:
TRUTH: Testing can never replace authentic learning demonstrated and evaluated in the classroom. NO single test can assess critical thinking and problem-solving skills adequately enough to be used for such high-stakes decisions.
The OPT one-size-fits-all assessment model is valid.
TRUTH: OPTs ignore individual learning styles and economic and cultural backgrounds.
OPTs improve instruction and overall education.
TRUTH::Narrow scopes of OPT material are actually limiting curriculum as districts focus on teaching to the test simply to improve a set of test scores with questionable meaning.
State legislators know what is best for our children's education.
TRUTH: Legislators have grasped centralized control in determining content, depth, timing and assessment of our curriculum. In doing so, they have stripped local districts of utilizing their professional teaching staffs for such decisions and diverted attention from the real issues of education reform and adequate funding.
