College rankings suffer from “methodological whimsy” that fails to value important elements of what makes a good school. But high school and K-8 U.S. News and other rankings are almost solely based on standardized test scores and, as Executive Director Harry Feder argues, have profound negative impacts on educational quality and equal access to quality schooling.
