The Federal Department of Education (DOE) has issued regulations concerning state assessment requirements and guidance for innovation under ESSA. Text and commentary of DOE regulations on assessment can be found here. FairTest has and will continue to comment on DOE policy as outlined in both formal regulations and actions taken with respect to proposed state assessments and innovation pilots proposed by states and developed and implemented by local education authorities (LEAs). We support efforts to implement ESSA that mitigate the use standardized tests and develop authentic assessments and multiple measures as the means of meeting ESSA requirements.
